Porsche (Porsche SE) is a German manufacturer of automobiles. The company is owned by the Porsche and Piëch families. The company has two important concerns, Porsche AG which manufactures the Porsche automobiles and (a very large stake in) Volkswagen AG. Porsche was founded in 1931 by an Austro-Hungarian engineer, Ferdinand Porsche, who designed the first Volkswagen. The company is headquartered in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart. In a May 2006 survey Porsche was named the most prestigious automobile brand by Luxury Institute, New York. The most popular Porsche brands now are their sports cars and the very famous 911. The Cayenne is their mid-size luxury SUV. The company has planned to launch a high performance luxury saloon or sedan.
